Amazon Lightsail Tutorial-Introduction to Amazon VPS
In this Amazon Lightsail tutorial, we will discuss a new virtual private service called Amazon Lightsail, but first let us look at things abstractly.
Every company supports an idea, and it is a key factor for every company’s success. The sooner you implement this idea, the more successful your company will be.
Check out AWS, the leader in cloud computing. Of course, they became leaders because they were great, but did you know that they started their cloud journey in the 2000s when there was no competitor, and in fact no competitor could deal with them?
Today, we have dozens of cloud providers to choose from, but AWS is still in a leading position. Why? Because they have a good start.
You, let us talk about you now, you have an amazing idea, but you are not equipped with all the knowledge and tools to realize it.
Suppose you are a blogger and want to start your own blog business. But when you start exploring, you will find that there is something called MySQL that needs to be installed and configured on your WordPress. It needs to be installed on the web server, which costs a lot of money!
wait! You rented a server, good job!
Cool, all you have to do now is configure it. You start to learn things, configure WordPress, connect it to MySQL, configure DNS, and lose interest at the same time because you really want to blog and you are having trouble managing the server!
But hey, cheer up! Our cloud computing guide is here to save you!
They developed a service called AWS Lightsail.
What is Amazon Lightsail?
Therefore, Amazon Lightsail is a VPS (Virtual Private Server) service that can provide you with templates to choose from. You can choose a simple operating system or an operating system with pre-baked applications that can be used with one click.
Want more? Prices start at $5 per month!
So you don’t have to worry about the underlying infrastructure, just launch your application and start developing your ideas, it’s that simple!
Who will use this service?
Let’s take another example. You are a blogger, remember? So you need a WordPress configuration system, all you have to do is select the WordPress icon from the “Create Instance” dashboard, select the plan you want, and you are ready to go!
So if you have basically everything installed and want to automatically configure it technically and your system does not need to be automatically expanded, then this should be correct for you!
What else does AWS pre-configure or take over?
Therefore, once you click the “Create Instance” button, it will perform the following actions:
Start the VM (virtual machine)
Connect SSD (Solid State Drive)
Create a security group
Set up DNS
Create static IP
How is Amazon Lightsail different from other AWS automation services, such as: B. OpsWorks or Lambda or Beanstalk?
Let’s take a look:
AutoScale: First set up capacity in Lightsail, the only way to increase capacity is to change your plan, so there is no automatic scaling in Lightsail. In Beanstalk, OpsWorks, etc., you can automatically expand resources, and you will be charged accordingly.
Fixed price: LightSail has a fixed price. For other services, you will be billed according to consumption due to support for automatic scaling.
Configuration: In OpsWorks, you can fully control the configuration of the system, you can configure levels, and you can create batches. Lightsail is not that complicated, you get a system without configuration. On the other hand, Beanstalk is all about code, you upload the application code and deploy the application to you. They are not applicable to the underlying operating system. AWS Lambda is about background tasks, you upload the code and start executing it for you.
So in a way, Lightsail is completely different.
So is this something Amazon came up with?
Well, not unlike other services from AWS that are original, AWS copied this service from its competitor DigitalOcean.
DigitalOcean only provides VPS services and has grown rapidly in recent years.
AWS recognized this and accurately launched the service on its own platform.
DigitalOcean and Amazon Lightsail
There is no difference in price or configuration, all provide ex to get the same system configuration at the same price.
Perhaps the only difference is that Amazon Lightsail can be used in conjunction with your other AWS resources, which is not possible with DigitalOcean.
Let’s get into the most attractive part of this service, which is pricing.
There are basically 5 different system configurations to choose from, each with a different price.
The above configuration is provided on an hourly basis, so you can start and stop instances as needed. Hour.
Yes, you read that right, AWS has also expanded the scope of free use of Amazon Lightsail.
You can use the $5 configuration for free, which is 720 hours in the first month! Go play!
You are now ready to start your Lightsail journey. Let us show you how to launch your first Lightsail instance.
In this Amazon Lightsail tutorial, we will launch an instance of WordPress configuration in Amazon Lightsail
Step 1: Log in to your AWS Management Console and choose Amazon Lightsail.
Step 2: Click the Create Instance button
Step 3: You can now select the desired option, since we are starting the WordPress server, we will select the WordPress option in the template.
Step 4: You can leave the SSH key pair as the default value, and then choose an instance plan as needed. We choose the configuration of the free tier.
Step 5: By default, the Northern Virginia region will be selected for you because Amazon Lightsail is only available in that region, but you can choose the desired availability zone.
Step 6: You can rename your instance to a suitable name, and finally click Create.
The computer needs time to run. After everything is complete, click on your instance on the instance homepage, and copy the public IP of your instance into a new tab.
As long as you visit the IP address, the following page will be displayed.
Congratulations! ! They have a WordPress machine for you.
